‘I DARE YOU’
‘Romans 10:13’ -------’Joel 2:32’
v.13 -” for whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
- 32 -” everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The meaning of ‘Romans 10:13’:
#1: involves more than simply invoking the Lord; it expresses a prayer for deliverance with cultic connotations, “to worship Jesus as Lord”.
#2: it’s a personal yielding of one's heart to Jesus as Lord, recognizing that He alone can save and is worthy of our allegiance and lives.
Cultic connotations refer to the associations or implications related to religious practices and rituals. The term “cult” itself has evolved over time. In its original sense, it denoted the care and reverence owed to deities, temples, shrines, or churches. This care was embodied in ritual and ceremony, including practices like prayer, sacrifice, votive offerings, processions, and the construction of monuments. The concept of cultus emphasized active maintenance beyond passive adoration, demonstrating respect, honor, and reverence to the gods. In Roman religion, it was considered a contractual aspect of worship. However, in popular use, the term “cult” has accumulated negative connotations and is often used to cast aspersions on a religious group’s validity as a form of religious practice
Cultic worship refers to the care and reverence given to deities, temples, shrines, or churches. It involves ritual practices such as prayer, sacrifice, votive offerings, processions, and the construction of monuments. The term "cult” can also refer more broadly to a cohesive social group, often religious believers, which may be considered outside the mainstream or possibly dangerous by the surrounding society. In the context of the Catholic Church, cultus specifically denotes devotions or veneration extended to particular saints, rather than the worship of God.
‘Joel 2:32’ meaning:
#1 is applicable to salvation from sin. Means that whoever, having heard the gospel, shall repent and believe in Christ, and call on Him, shall be delivered from temporal and eternal destruction.
#2: “mount Zion and Jerusalem” symbolize the church or kingdom of Jesus Christ. Prophecy emphasizes that whoever hears the gospel, repents, believes in Christ, and calls upon His name will be delivered from both temporal and eternal destruction. It underscores the universal invitation to salvation and the promise of deliverance for all who seek the Lord.
These two verses pull us to call on the Lord and end in the same conclusion calling on him and to have loving relationship with Him. The verse in Romans 10:13 holds significant theological implications.
- universal Salvation: ‘everyone who calls’ - emphasizes the inclusivity of salvation. Not limited to a specific group; anyone who genuinely seeks God can find redemption through Jesus Christ.
-Lordship of Jesus: Invoking the name of the Lord we; you; or I acknowledge Jesus as our savior and Lord. It’s more than invocation; it’s an act of worship and surrender.
-Gods mercy: Calling upon the Lord demonstrates our reliance on His mercy. We recognize that Salvation comes through Him alone.
(v.13) encourages us to seek God, recognizing Jesus as our Savior, and trust in His abundant grace for salvation.
: What does it mean to call on the name of the Lord?
-Romans 10:13 reveals that this question is not inconsequential.
(Joel 2:32) 1st: He connects this truth to His statement in the previous verse that Christ, the Lord of all, gives His riches to all who call on Him, both Jews and Gentiles.
“Calling on the name of the Lord, in this context, means those who turn to Christ in faith seeking salvation. Not literally a description of a “sinners’ prayer”. Those who express the sentiment that a sinners prayer contains. This is the act of placing one's faith in Christ. Crucially different from those Jesus described in (Matthew 7:21-23), as those who use His name, but have no actual faith in Him.
2nd: Showing that Christ the Lord is in fact Israel’s Yahweh from the Old Testament, is one and the same. All who call on Him in faith, both Jews and Gentile, will be saved from Gods’ wrath against sin and will share in Gods glory forever.
All who confess Christ as Lord and believe in His resurrection, will be saved.
Paul’s heart is broken for his people, Israel. He prays they will be saved through faith
in Christ. Their enthusiasm for God is made useless by their attempt to be made righteous by their own law keeping instead of by faith in Christ.
: What is required to be saved?
One must confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead.
The same is true for all. God waits patiently for Israel to turn and believe. As well as
he waits patiently for all to also turn and believe.
This message transcends our time to speak to people of all time-, past, current, and
future. God’s looming judgment of sin and urges people everywhere to repent and return to God’s Spirit becomes available to every believer. “I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” The importance of believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. He emphasizes that salvation is available to all who call upon the name of the Lord. Regardless of their background or status. The verse serves as a reminder of God’s grace and the universal invitation to receive salvation through faith.
Faith plays a central role, salvation is accessible to all who genuinely call upon the name of the Lord, Faith is the conduit through which we connect with God’s grace and receive salvation. Trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, acknowledging His sacrifice and His resurrection. Through faith we enter into a personal relationship with God, relying on His mercy and love.
Truly calling upon the name of God is the testimony of the true faith and true faith of true vocation or calling, and true calling of true election. This can be translated or miss understood depending on the version you are reading. I promise you that when you call upon Him or call His name you will find all that you have been searching for. Fear keeps us from calling on Him. That fear is the enemy. Calling on Him is in reach, I urge you call out to Him.
