The Son
The SON!!
Matthew 18:11
“For the Son of man is come to save that which is lost.”
Jesus declares his mission of Him to save the lost. This implies that God cares for all of us man, especially the humble, and the weak and does not want us to perish. This sets the context for verses to come, teaching about how to deal with sin and forgiveness in the church. It shows the (contrast) disparity between the self-righteousness of the Pharisees and the mercy of Christ.
The story of Zacchaeus comes to mind. Jesus comes and is walking through the town of Jericho when He spots a particular man up in a sycamore tree. This man was disquisitive and curious as the huge crowd that surround Jesus. Jesus acknowledges the man and tells him to come down from the tree and tells him, “I must stay at your home today.”
(Luke 19:5)
Zacchaeus hurried down the tree, he was so overjoyed of being addressed and to host Jesus. (Luke19:1-6)
Zacchaeus was an employee of the Rome government. His position in the government was being a tax collector. This consist of him taking money from his fellow Jews to fund their own occupation. He also took a hefty fee for himself. This was such an enormous betrayal to his fellow countryman on several different levels.
As he met Jesus everything changed for him. He saw all his wrongdoing and he repented. He proved this by returning what he had taken in an unjust way. Jesus declares over him that he is restored as a child of Abraham. (Luke 19: 7-9)
We could examine the parable of the Ten Minas. (Luke 19:11-27)
As people heard these things, He proceeded to tell the parable because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they were prognosticating that the Kingdom of God was to materialize instantaneously. (Luke 19:11)
Only recently and leading to the event, James, John, and their mother had asked to give the sons favored positions in His Kingly court. Jesus told the disciples, “You do not know what you are asking.” Again- when they reached Jerusalem, “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.” (Matthew 20:18-19). The disciples heard this and were angered at James and Jhon.
Then Jesus told the group, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28)
Jesus goes on to say, “He hasn’t come to be king.” -yet- He has come to save the lost, like Zacchaeus. The triumph entrance shall be a glorious and appropriate reaction to Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem. (Luke 19:28-40) During the rest of the week the Jewish leaders and so many others in a position of power rejected Him as their Messiah, the son of God and Crucified Him.
As a true believer in God, I truly say to you all Christ’s Kingdom is coming, but as His Disciples we need to be patient and stay faithful. For He gave His disciples significant responsibilities. Through their faithfulness with the responsibilities will reflect their faith in Him and determine their position in His future Kingdom.
(Luke 19: 11-27)
He came in search of us that are lost, He found us; He redeemed us. It was the greatest objective of his life; and though we may be obscured and little in the eye of the world, yet that cannot be an object of contempt which The Son of God sought by His toils and His Death.
The generation would see it as is, “He is useless to society. So, all people are “LOST”. We are wicked, sinful, and miserable wanders from God. We are lost to piety, to happiness, to heaven. Jesus came to save us by giving His own life, a ransom, and shedding his own blood that we might be recovered and saved.
